My comment: In the context of bioscience, the issues revolve around the fact that no experimental evidence supports the idea of mutation-initiated natural selection. Thus, mutation-driven evolution is simply a misrepresentation of what is obviously nutrient-dependent pheromone-controlled adaptive evolution.
I am passionate about using my research and understanding of molecular epigenetics to help others understand what the issues are from the perspective of the power of belief. Evolutionary theorists are just as passionate in their attempts to ensure others continue to believe in theories that have not been scientifically tested, except once. The experiments in a nematode did not provide any evidence of mutation-initiated natural selection. See: An experimental test on the probability of extinction of new genetic variants.
Experiments in nematodes and in many other species from microbes to man provide evidence that adaptive evolution is nutrient-dependent and pheromone-controlled. I provided the citations to that experimental evidence in: Nutrient-dependent/pheromone-controlled adaptive evolution: a model. For example: I wrote: “Differences in the behavior of nematodes are determined by nutrient-dependent rewiring of their primitive nervous system (Bumbarger et al., 2013). Species incompatibilities in nematodes are associated with cysteine-to-alanine substitutions (Wilson et al., 2011), which may alter nutrient-dependent pheromone production.”
Note: In his TED 2012 talk titled “Abundance is Our Future.” Peter Diamandis leads with the importance of the amygdala, which is an olfactory processing center in the brain, and finishes with the importance of protein folding.
It is the epigenetic effects of olfactory/pheromonal input on protein folding that enable the link from the epigenetic “landscape” (i.e., our sensory environment) to the physical landscape of DNA in the organized genomes of species from microbes to man. That link explains experimental results presented in Olfaction spontaneously highlights visual saliency map. That link is commonly ignored in presentations, especially those that include grandiose claims about what some people “see” in our future. For contrast, in reality, our future is nutrient-dependent and pheromone-controlled. It always has been! All of the world’s technology will not help us to escape the colony collapse manifested in the honeybee model organism of nutrient-dependent pheromone-controlled eusociality and adaptive evolution exemplified in another recent report: Phylogenomics Resolves Evolutionary Relationships among Ants, Bees, and Wasps. The evolutionary relationships are clearly nutrient-dependent and pheromone-controlled via the epigenetic effects of olfactory/pheromonal input on protein folding and alternative splicings that enable the de novo creation of olfactory receptor genes.
