In discussion of anthropic theory and the fact that fundamental physical constraints underlie our life-enabling universe, Andrew Jones wrote:
“Pathogenicity of E. coli 0157 has nothing to do with its temperature stability.”
Like others who are biologically uninformed, Jones defies a common sense approach and he also defies the US president’s call for intelligent researchers to be integrated into areas of medical research:
See:
Excerpt: “President Barack Obama called for a new medical research push in his State of the Union address, which the White House says will include fighting antibiotic resistance and the pursuit of targeted therapy based on a patient’s genetic makeup.”
My comment: Will someone please tell the biologically uninformed to stop defying all attempts to make scientific progress by claiming that antibiotic resistance arises due to mutations and that mutations lead to the evolution of differences in cell types of all cells in all individuals of all species?
See for example: Mutation-Driven Evolution
Excerpt: Mutation is the change of genomic structure and includes nucleotide substitution, insertion/deletion, segmental gene duplication, genomic duplication, changes in gene regulatory systems, transposition of genes, horizontal gene transfer, etc. (2) Natural selection is for saving advantageous mutations and eliminating harmful mutations. Selective advantage of the mutation is determined by the type of DNA change, and therefore natural selection is an evolutionary process initiated by mutation.
Why can’t pseudoscientists understand the fact that “Life is physics and chemistry and communication” and that ‘conditions of life’ are nutrient-dependent and pheromone-controlled via RNA-mediated events? For example, nutrient-dependent RNA-directed DNA methylation links the sun’s biological energy to RNA-mediated 1) amino acid substitutions; 2) the origin of plant life; and 3) to cell type differentiation in plants and in animals via the biophysically constrained chemistry of protein folding.
For information about the sun and light-induced amino acid substitutions, see: Single-residue insertion switches the quaternary structure and exciton states of cryptophyte light-harvesting proteins
For information about an amino acid substitution that differentiates cell types in E. coli, see: The host metabolite D-serine contributes to bacterial niche specificity through gene selection
For information on the role of an amino acid substitution in the development of human behavior and pharmacogenomics testing, which links nutrient-dependent metabolic networks to genetic networks in heath and disease, see: Oppositional COMT Val158Met effects on resting state functional connectivity in adolescents and adults
For more accurate information about biologically-based cause and effect, watch this 2.33 – minute long video representation.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGjG_9EEeeA
The video accurately represents RNA-mediated cell type differentiation, and it may help theorists to distinguish the difference between a mutation and an amino acid substitution.
It will not help them to understand the fact that life is physics and chemistry and information until they learn that molecules do not evolve and that life did not evolve from molecules. Life ecologically adapts! Formation of molecules is physically and chemically constrained. Formation of amino acid substitutions that differentiate the cell types of all living organisms from all other living organisms and viruses is also, not surprisingly, biophysically and chemically constrained.
Ongoing discussion of obvious facts that link physic, chemistry, and molecular biology continues in the secret FB group “Quantum Biology, coherence and decoherence.” The discussions could be occurring at Pheromones Research, which is my Facebook Science Page. Instead, discussions occur on pages of others in secret groups or on the Facebook Pages of others.
Here’s a recent comment: “Epigenetics is one of my favourite interests, and I think its importance will grow much in the future.“
My response 1) You continue to miss my point. See the molecular epigenetics section of our 1996 review: https://www.hawaii.edu/PCSS/biblio/articles/1961to1999/1996-from-fertilization.html Compare what we detailed about chromatin remodeling in the context of RNA-mediated cell type differentiation to Nei’s pseudoscientific nonsense: “(1) Mutation is the source of all genetic variation on which any form of evolution is dependent. Mutation is the change of genomic structure and includes nucleotide substitution, insertion/deletion, segmental gene duplication, genomic duplication, changes in gene regulatory systems, transposition of genes, horizontal gene transfer, etc. (2) Natural selection is for saving advantageous mutations and eliminating harmful mutations.” https://www.amazon.com/books/dp/0199661731 Then, tell me what you think you – or anyone else — has learned about cell type differentiation during the past two decades (e.g., in the context of health and/or disease). The importance of epigenetics was clear 20 years ago, and it has been ignored. Your claim that “…its importance will grow much in the future” is like saying, we knew everything now known about chromatin remodeling before Diamond, Binstock & Kohl (1996) detailed biologically-based cause and effect in species from microbes to man via conserved molecular mechanisms. And someday, we’re going to stop ignoring those facts.
My response 2) See for comparison, someone who already stop ignoring the link from the epigenetic landscape to the physical landscape of DNA in the organized genomes of species from microbes to man, and actually cited my 2013 review in the same article. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0016648014004006 Excerpt: “Future work on O. vulgaris olfaction must also consider how animals acquire the odours detected by the olfactory organ and what kind of odour the olfactory organ perceives. The OL acting as control centre may be target organ for metabolic hormones such as leptin like and insulin like peptides, and olfactory organ could exert regulatory action on the OL via epigenetic effects of nutrients and pheromones on gene expression (Kohl, 2013; Elekonich and Robinson, 2000).”
My response 3) https://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-02-synthetic-circuit-dialing-gene-human.html Excerpt: “Once you know it works in yeast, you know the steps to make it function in human cells.” Elekonich and Robinson (2000) linked our model of RNA-mediated cell type differentiation to insects after we linked yeasts to mammals via the conserved molecular mechanisms of chromatin remodeling in 1996. So far as I know, nothing about cell type differentiation has changed since 1996.
Many physicists, chemists, and molecular biologists have continued to ignore what’s been obvious to serious scientists for at least two decades. The 2015 State of the Union address makes it clear that the pseudoscientific nonsense must stop. On the same day of the 2015 address, this was in the news.
Do Quantum Superpositions Have a Size Limit?
Excerpt: “Fledgling theories of macrorealism may well form the basis of the next generation “upgrade” to quantum theory by setting the scale of the quantum-classical boundary. Thanks to the results of this experiment, we can be sure that the boundary cannot lie below the scale at which the cesium atom has been shown to behave like a wave. How high is this scale? A theoretical measure of macroscopicity [8] (see 18 April 2013 Synopsis) gives the cesium atom a modest ranking of 6.8, above the only other object tested with null measurements [5], but far below where most suspect the boundary lies. (Schrödinger’s cat is a 57.)”
My comment: The article defines macrorealism but it was not possible for me to determine whether current findings have or have not been extended from physics via chemistry to biology: Nevertheless, the article claims that “This will push the envelope of macroscopicity further and reveal yet more about the nature of the relationship between the quantum and the macroworld.”
That suggests what is currently known about quanta does not extend to the macroworld. How could it not?
The authors attest to the fact that an energy trap is required to link physics and chemistry to the conserved molecular mechanisms of life via information transfer that links the epigenetic landscape directly to the physical landscape of DNA in the organized genomes of species from microbes to man. The first trap appears to be water molecules in the earth’s atmosphere that slow the speed of light, which allows the creation of the amino acid glycine. After its creation, achiral glycine promotes the formation of chiral amino acids that differentiate the cell types of all cells in all individuals of all species via the formation and breaking of hydrogen bonds in the context of nutrient uptake and differences in behavior. Successful behaviors lead to the metabolism of nutrients to species specific pheromones that control the physiology of reproduction in species from microbes to man. Those species include cats, including Schrödinger’s cat-in-a-box, with its macroscopicity measure of 57. Whether it’s dead or alive could be predicted in the context of this article: Life is physics and chemistry and communication
In three different conditions, the cat with the macroscopicity measure of 57 is dead before you open the sealed box. Schrödinger’s thought experiment addressed two of those three conditions. It could be killed by radiation, it could be killed by the toxic gas. If you wait too long to open the sealed box, the third condition is that the cat would die of asphyxiation, starvation, or thirst. In any or all of those cases you have a dead cat with a macroscopicity measure of 57.
Evolutionary theorists seem to think that if you started with two cats and waited long enough to open the box that one would evolve into a male and the other into a female. Then the two cats with sexually differentiated cell types would, if you waited long enough, produce offspring that one day had mutated and evolved into another species. This suggests that evolutionary theorists are not capable of thinking “outside the box” or they may not be capable of any intelligent thought.
Cell type differentiation links the first energy trap to the de novo creation of olfactory receptor genes, which facilitate all other interactions between quantum physics, the chemistry of RNA-mediated protein folding, and the conserved molecular mechanisms of biologically-based cause and effect that link species from microbes to man via their nutrient-dependent pheromone-controlled physiology of reproduction.
