Darwin and others have said that what drives this pattern is gradients in density or diversity of interacting species, but instead it seems to be effects of stress on growth, survival, reproduction and germination of the plant species,” said Allison Louthan, who led the research while completing her PhD dissertation in CU Boulder’s Environmental Studies Program.

Darwin’s “conditions of life” were the basis for his claims, which were bastardized by theorists who place natural selection first. Aridity links ecological variation from thermodynamic cycles of protein biosynthesis and degradation from conditions of life to ecological adaptations via energy-dependent fixation of RNA-mediated amino acid substitutions in all living genera. Nutrient stress and or social stress link the proliferation of viruses to all pathology.
Why is anyone enrolled in a Ph.D program at CU Boulder’s Environmental Studies Program not aware of the facts of life and the virus-driven degradation of proteins presented in Schrodinger’s “What is Life? Feedback loops link quantized energy as information to biophysically constrained RNA-mediated protein folding chemistry. Light induced energy-dependent changes link angstroms to ecosystems from classical physics to chemistry/chirality and to molecular epigenetics/autophagy. The National Microbiome Initiative links microbial quorum sensing to the physiology of reproduction via endogenous RNA interference and chromosomal rearrangements. The rearrangements link energy-dependent fixed amino acid substitutions to the Precision Medicine Initiative via genome wide inferences of natural selection. This detailed representation of energy-dependent natural selection for codon optimality links biologically- based cause and effect from G protein-coupled receptors to RNA-mediated amino acid substitutions and the functional structure of supercoiled DNA. Energy-dependent polycombic ecological adaptations are manifested in supercoiled DNA. Chromosomal inheritance links the adaptations from morphological phenotypes to healthy longevity via behavioral phenotypes. For contrast, virus-driven energy theft is the link from messenger RNA degradation to negative supercoiling, constraint breaking mutations, and hecatombic evolution. The viral hecatomb links transgenerational epigenetic inheritance from archaea to Zika virus-damaged DNA, which typically is repaired by endogenous RNA interference and fixation of RNA-mediated amino acid

Neuroscientists Dr Christina Strauch and Prof Dr Denise Manahan-Vaughan from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum have investigated which brain area is responsible for storing odours as long-term memories.

Antiviral protein linked to depressed mood in mice April 19, 2016

…the study suggests that the CXCL10/CXCR3 signaling pathway acts as a bridge between rising interferon levels in the blood and changes in neuronal activity in the brain, explaining how virus infection or type I interferon treatment causes mood changes.

The virus-driven degradation of messenger RNA links the theft of quantized energy to all pathology via changes in the microRNA/messenger RNA balance. See for details: microRNA

In conclusion, our results suggest that olfactory information is processed in a similar way as visual information regarding place field formation in the CA1 region. These data support that olfactory information can help to stabilize place fields when other sensory modalities are not salient enough.

Pheromones biophysically constrain viral latency, which is how food odors are linked from the creation of enzymes to all biodiversity via the physiology of reproduction. Feedback loops link odor and pheromone signaling with reproduction
Proteins in shark teeth could hint at what they eat December 18, 2017

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. Scientists can determine where sharks fit into the food web by measuring ratios of different types of in in shark tissue. Certain amino acids accumulate in predictable amounts as they travel up the food chain. But using soft tissue like muscle to analyze a shark’s diet can be tricky, because researchers must collect and store the tissue properly.

But researchers from the University of Southern Florida have found that shark can provide the same feeding information…

If you are one of the biologically uninformed researchers who has, until now, failed to link food energy-dependent changes from atoms to ecosystems in all living genera via the pheromone-controlled physiology of reproduction, please consider a career choice as a pseudoscientist. Alternatively, see: Nutrient-dependent pheromone-controlled ecological adaptations: from atoms to ecosystems
Update your knowledge base if you want others to consider your potential to become a serious scientist. See for instance: Common origins of RNA, protein and lipid precursors in a cyanosulfidic protometabolism

The reliance of the homologation chemistry on hydrogen cyanide (11) (all the carbon and nitrogen atoms in the compounds of the reaction network derive from this single source) and hydrogen sulfide (12) prompts us to use the term ‘cyanosulfidic’ to describe this protometabolic38 systems chemistry.

No experimental evidence of biophysically constrained viral latency suggests that energy emerged or that any species evolved into another species via mutations and natural selection. Whatever it is that skeptics believe in should not be compared to facts about energy-dependent life on Earth or the Afterlife. Indeed, the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics was recently reported to be missing information because theorists assumed the absence of correlated subatomic particles.

See for comparison: Why Skepticism Is the Right Approach to the Afterlife, Immortality, and Utopia | Michael Shermer

American public intellectual Michael Shermer says that any idea of the afterlife makes zero sense: your mind and therefore your memories are beholden to your body and that any version of you that made it into heaven, should there actually be one, would just be a copy of you and unable to register that they were actually in heaven.

All public intellectuals should declare their conflicts of interest and/or admit they are not scientists before admitting the best they are good for is ridicule. Shermer, for example, claims there is no sense of progress outside the context of culture.
