The concept of a species is clearly seen in the context of Darwin’s “conditions of life” and sympatric speciation. What organisms eat is linked from their physiology of pheromone-controlled reproduction to biophysically constrained viral latency and all extant biodiversity via energy-dependent changes in base pairs and fixation of amino acid substitutions in the organized genomes of species from microbes to humans.
