RNA-Peptide Co-Evolution Model: Life might have originated from a system where short RNA molecules bonded with amino acids or small peptides, enhancing each other’s stability and function. This mutual reinforcement could have led to the development of a proto-genetic code where specific RNA sequences (proto-mRNAs) directed the assembly of peptides, which in turn helped in the replication and stability of RNA, eventually evolving into a complex system involving translation and the genetic code.
