My comment: I framed my comments and a question in the context of this article on physics. Their claim of a possible size limit on quantum superpositions seemed to divorce top-down causation from cell–cell communication in mammals. That suggested there is no link from the sun’s biological energy to cell type differentiation via sensing and signaling in the “Schroedinger’s cat” thought experiment.

According to one physicist, the link from quantum mechanics to macrorealism does not cease to apply at some scale. If quantum mechanics extends across sizes of organisms, light-induced amino acid substitutions can differentiate cell types in species from microbes to man. For example,

In my model, fixation of the substitutions via the nutrient-dependent physiology of pheromone-controlled reproduction explains ecological adaptations via DNA repair that is manifested in darker skin pigmentation. The DNA repair and darker skin pigmentation are linked to the stability of organized genomes in regions where malaria is endemic.

In the context of everything currently known about hemoglobin variants in other regions, hemoglobin S (sickle cell hemoglobin) is most likely to be a manifestation of vitamin D-linked genomic stability via fixation of a nutrient-dependent variant. Ecological variation links sickle cell trait and sickle cell disease to hemoglobin S as a nutrient-dependent ecological adaption, which may or may not co-vary with skin pigmentation, blood types, or any other variation across population of different species.

Even if all hemoglobin variants were fixed across the entirety of all modern human population they could not be considered to be mutations. For example, in the context of my model, there are 1180 other human hemoglobin variants that suggest, as did Dobzhansky (1973) that all are linked from amino acid substitutions to cell type differentiation in individuals of the same and of different species. That explains how ecological variation leads to ecological adaptations in species from microbes to man via the conserved molecular epigenetics of biophysically constrained RNA-mediated protein folding and amino acid substitutions that differentiate cell types.

Ellis et al. (2012) mentioned “The papers by Jaeger (microbiology) and Noble (physiology) are strong steps forward in this regard.”

I claim that prediction was manifested in what is known about quorum sensing. It is nutrient-dependent and pheromones control the physiology of reproduction in species from microbes to man. The additional claim that links the sun’s biological energy to symbiosis in the luminescent microbes of squid, links light energy to light energy via the chemistry of nutrient-dependent RNA-mediated amino acids and protein folding in the microbes and in the cephalopod. Polese et al (2015) helped to link the substitution of achiral glycine from gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) to the stability of DNA in the octopus.

SICB 2015 presenters have linked all crustaceans to insects via the mechanisms I detailed in my 2013 review. The problem for me has become attempting to keep up with the amount of support for my model that arrives daily in publications from across disciplines.

Nutrient-dependent feedback loops and chromatin loops link RNA-mediated amino acid substitutions to the stability of DNA in organized genomes and to cell type differentiation in all cells of all individuals of all species. Two questions from quantum physics have since been answered by the results published yesterday.

Q: 1) Am I here or there?

A: You are where you are observed to be.

Q: 2) Am I alive or dead?

A: Your dead if you can’t think your way out of the box.

Actually, there are two boxes. One is Big Bang Cosmology. The other box is Evolutionary Theory.

Even single-celled microbes seem to understand the fact that they must eat and reproduce for their species’ to survive. They found their way out of the Evolutionary Theory box. I may not make any further attempts to link the claims from the articles above to sensing and signaling in species from microbes to man until someone else confirms that the representations made about quantum mechanics were wrong and that the claims are relevant to links from physics to chemistry and biology. There is no reason to call attention to the fact that theoretical physics is also boxed in by biophysical constraints on the chemistry of protein folding.

Indeed, in the context of quantum coherence and entanglement in algae and bacteria, one researcher reportedly went so far as to claim: “…algae knew about quantum mechanics nearly two billion years before humans.”  It did not take long for others to link quantum mechanics to quantum biology in humans. My comment: Luca Turin’s theory links odors from nutrient uptake in the context of ‘quantum smell.’ See: A Spectroscopic Mechanism for Primary Olfactory Reception (1996); Molecular Vibration-Sensing Component in Human Olfaction (2013); and Electron spin changes during general anesthesia in Drosophila.(2014).

Excerpt from 2014: “Our results establish a possible link between (un)consciousness in flies and electron currents detectable by a change in a quantum observable, electron spin.”

My comment: The link from invertebrate quantum smell to quantum consciousness in cephalopods may not be perfectly clear in the context of quantum physics because almost nothing — if anything — is perfectly clear in the context of quantum physics. However, it would be difficult to miss the link from the epigenetic landscape to the physical landscape of DNA in the organized genomes of species from microbes to man via light-induced amino acid substitutions that differentiate all cell types in all individuals of all species of plants and animals.

The only way to miss that link would be to exclude what is currently known about quantum physics by excluding what is known about how the sun’s biological energy fuels the nutrient-dependent survival of every species on earth via conserved molecular mechanisms that link physics to the chemistry of protein folding. The chemistry of protein folding links the nutrient-dependent pheromone-controlled physiology of reproduction to biodiversity in all animals.
